One-on-One Advising

Let’s talk over Zoom to assess where you are as an applicant. From understanding timelines and pre-reqs to developing and editing your personal statement, I will provide holistic, honest advising that takes into consideration your life experience, unique story and needs.

On a Video Call

Writing

My BSEd and MA in English have served me well as I’ve helped hundreds of students over the years write their resumes, personal statements, disadvantaged statements, experience writing and secondaries.

Bring your ideas or a rough draft, and we can develop a piece that showcases the unique value that you bring to healthcare through your stories.

Life Coaching

If you feel stuck and unsure how to move forward with a difficult decision, I can provide an unbiased conversation to bounce ideas and concerns. Unlike a counseling session, a coach does not attempt to “fix you” but rather asks you questions that challenge your logic in decision making to ensure you have considered each perspective or possibility. Sometimes honest feedback is what we need to help move forward.

Testimonials

I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Joanne for well over three years. Joanne gave me terrific advice and insight throughout this process. Applying to medical school is a grueling process involving extensive preparation and prolonged effort. Joanne provided me with valuable guidance at every step of the way. Examples include advice regarding gaining relevant healthcare experiences, composing my personal statement, gathering letters of recommendation, navigating AMCAS, preparing for interviews, communicating with medical schools, and more. In addition to her expertise, Joanne was consistently patient and encouraging. I truly could not have asked for a more outstanding advisor.

I’m excited to be starting medical school this summer at the Mayo Clinic. It was Joanne who suggested that I apply there since she felt it would be a good fit for me. I am very thankful for her recommendation, along with all of her great advising!

Joanne is an invaluable resource. I have never met an advisor that gave her personal number to her students and who took time before and after work to meet with her students on her own dime to see them succeed. I went into the application cycle with a 501 MCAT. I ended up with 4 acceptances (MD and DO) and a full-ride scholarship. If it wasn’t for Joanne, I would not have had this outcome. Joanne coached me interpersonally, edited my AMCAS application, prepared me for the MMIs and traditional interviews, and believed in me even when I did not. My dreams came true because of her. It is a beautiful thing when talent and passion come together, Joanne is a perfect example of this.

It was my pleasure to have Joanne as my advisor during my journey to medical school. As a non-traditional student, I encountered many roadblocks and was in need of frequent guidance. Joanne made me feel supported from the beginning. She empowered me to pursue my goals while simultaneously providing a practical approach to achieving them. Joanne always made herself accessible, despite being the primary advisor for a great many students. She hosted workshops and organized guest speakers for her students, which helped to expand our knowledge in a way that would be useful to our future careers. Joanne works tirelessly for her students, and I was so lucky to work with someone who cared so much about my success.
